When the Day Sucks Your Soul, Blog About A Quilt
Let’s get one thing out of the way. Today sucked. Like a dementor set on giving me the kiss of death, a certain event this morning took my day from “let’s do fun things like homeschool outside and bake apple cinnamon bread” to “screw it all, we’re watching movies and having mac ‘n cheese for dinner.” It would have been crappy even if I wasn’t 38 million days pregnant.
So. Now that life has settled, the kids are on their way to bed, and I am sitting in a dark room with my toddler’s head on my lap while he dozes off, I can breathe a bit. I was scrolling Instagram (because on Insta, I can avoid political junk that is spewed all over Facebook), and saw a darling quilt someone just finished. It reminded me that I finally finished Baby #6’s quilt earlier this week. I figured, now is a good time to share the pics! My mind is numb already, blogging about a quilt takes no effort.
I am happy with how it turned out. My free-motion skills are pretty pathetic, and I will work on that…but even so, I think it’s a pretty cute boy quilt. Of course, it is huge (for a baby) and won’t really be used much until he is 2ish (Firecracker is now just over 2, and this week started asking for his quilt I made before he was born).
From 12 feet up, you can’t see my free-motion flops. That is what matters. No one looks that closely unless the quilt is for judging. None of my quilts will be for judging. They are for being loving to bits.
The back has flannel with an extra border, because the flannel wasn’t wide enough on its own.
I love the fabrics and how they all came together. Here’s hoping Baby Boy grows up to love it, too!
Gah! What a beautiful quilt! You amaze me. Hope is a restful night. Can’t wait to meet little Fence!
It’s beautiful! No one will ever see the imperfections you see, only a wonderful piece to treasure forever!! I love all of it, but I really like the back. It’s *unexpected* 🙂
Great work, Gina!
I hope you have a better day tomorrow <3
Love it! I’ll be praying for you!
I lovveeee it! It’s perfect! I really need to get on making one for each of the boys. Now that I have since basics would love to get on that! Beautiful job, mama!
It turned out fantastic! Of course he will love it.
Sorry you had a horrible day, hope things look better tomorrow.
That’s absolutely gorgeous! The fabrics are fun and came together amazingly. Nice work!
Gina, your quilt looks wonderful – I really like the colors you chose. How sweet that your little firecracker started asking about theirs after seeing their brother’s quilt!
LOVE your fabric choices, such a keepsake!! Good work. 🙂
