Why “memento mori”?

Sirach 28:6 tells us “remember your last days, set enmity aside; remember death and decay, and cease from sin!”

Why a skull?
Traditionally, many saints are pictured with a skull on their desks & in their living spaces, as a reminder to them that death is real, and that they need to live faithfully devoted to Jesus. We need not fear death when we have faith that Jesus conquered death for us.
