Favorites This Fall

| |

I know, it’s been a gazillion years since I was true to my word that I would blog more regularly.  L i f e  always decides differently for me. So it goes, right?

Now it’s October and one of the best (and busiest) times of the year. I honestly can’t decide what season is my favorite, because the change of seasons always feels exciting and delightful to me. October is a lovely, though, because it’s still warm(-ish), the leaves aren’t all dead and ugly yet, the harvest colors and smells and foods bring so much beauty and joy and delicious goodness to life.

I’d love to be in person chatting all things life and faith and family with you, so in lieu of a true coffee date, here’s what I’m loving this fall. Are you sipping some coffee while you read? Maybe chai? Maybe something else warm and delicious? (wine???)

This amazing work of art. Music is art. Lauren’s voice and lyrics on this album are stunning.

Indulging a baking request with my kindergartner, who also wanted cut-out gingerbread cookies (on September 1). The spicy smells, the messy table, the anticipation while the cookies baked… Ah. Perfection in baking with little ones.

The ocean in autumn, and quiet afternoons to adventure through the sand with my littlest while the others are at school.

Cooler runs, crunchy leaves, and solo trips to Starbucks.

This book, which I heard about from a guest on a podcast. It’s so good; I think I’ll read it over and over. I’ve already recommended it to a few of the women I write with for Blessed Is She. Madeleine L’Engle’s reflections on beauty, faith, art, and writing resonate with me, in ways I didn’t even realize I felt about faith and art.

Photo challenges. I’ve already missed a day, but in my defense, no task is ever done in my house (see prompt #3). There are loads of laundry crying my name, and layers of dust ready to be written in they are so thick.

Being among the first to see the Advent goodies from Blessed Is She. Don’t you love previews? I love previews. The joys of being part of this sisterhood and growing more into my life as a Catholic woman only grow each season. It’s not only the beautiful products and the perk of being on the team so I can “see it first”…it’s the being part of a great community of women seeking to know and be better, together, and looking forward to the days and weeks when I’ll be part of thousands of women digging into this study together.

And can you get over this gold foil? I mean. It’s so gorgeous.

You guys, the candle also smells A M A Z I N G. We had the chance to see it and smell it while on retreat in Arizona. It’s so lovely.

“We were made to be loved by God and transformed by His love for us.”

The Advent study this year will focus on the Magnificat. I can’t wait. I’ll probably be reading mine when there’s a pause in my days…while waiting to pick kids up from an activity or while waiting for a doctor’s appointment to start or end. Most likely in my truck, because someone usually falls asleep while we’re driving. (not me, of course!)

Because, I’ll be honest, I could spend my waiting time doing better things than scrolling the IG feed, deleting pointless emails, or hollering at the kids.

There you go. Some of my favorites this fall. How about you?
