Embrace the Ordinary vol. 6

| | |

This week, I’m struggling to write my post. I’m exhausted. I’m surrounded by messes all around the house, begging for organization. I feel disconnected. It doesn’t help that the baby isn’t sleeping well (and so I’m starting to night-wean, because waking up 3x an hour is for the birds), that Fence is working today, that my mind is swirling and not centering on anything.Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

I need to get back to my routine of quiet and prayer in the morning to help center me and ground me for the day. Even the few minutes I was typically spending with a verse or two of Scripture and the wisdom of the saints was bearing fruit in my heart. After all, even though there are seasons when my heart yearns for the quiet and discipline of a religious order so I could just pray and dive into the richness of the Church teachings and God’s Word, I’m a busy mom and there just isn’t room in my day for even an hour of quiet prayer time. So, it’s time for me to once again realize that my time for prayer is short, yet needed, and to make the most of it.

I’ll sit for a few minutes in the morning, in silence (hopefully. The boys are very early risers), and through the rest of the day, I will pray as I work. Wasn’t it St. Benedict who spoke about making work a prayer? He and I need to spend some time together, I think. Once I finish the books I’m currently reading, I’ll probably go read “A Mother’s Rule of Life” again, and that combined with the organization e-course I’m working through, will hopefully bring some peace back to my scattered mind.

But for now, it’s all about the tried-and-true book which I always come back to, “A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms”. With God’s grace, the few minutes of prayer I can offer will transform all the rest of the minutes in my day, and help me to live my ordinary moments just a little more gracefully.

This week, Theresa from Ordinary Lovely is co-hosting the link-up with me!

Theresa

She’s been sharing her ordinary moments and how she embraces them since I started. I love her take on life, her candid stories, her heartfelt posts. She        recently shared about a conversation she with with one of her kids, about a mother’s love. Her current Embrace the Ordinary post is here, where she talks about Legos.

Thanks so much for co-hosting, Theresa!

  1. That was one of the first books I *won* when I converted a blog contest. Of course, I gave it away like a silly person. But I always think “oh this would be great for…” and forgetting about little old me. Sounds very familiar. I need to get another copy. Praying for you, sweets!

  2. Gina! I have been so busy lately I just came over here and saw I never linked up my Embrace post. I’m so sorry! But I’m glad I got it over here in time 🙂 I’ve actually been thinking of you and your “organization” post as well as this one, b/c I’ve been staying away from blogging, etc… to focus more on personal prayer and order in our home. Looks like I’ll be on a blog-lite diet for a couple weeks until those things are back in shape 🙂 As always, thanks for this link-up!!

    1. I feel you. This week keeps rolling with the punches…so I am trying to *still* find my balance.

Thanks for co-hosting with me! Let me know when you’re back to more blogging if you want to do it again. 😉
