Embrace the Ordinary, vol. 34

This week, it has rained non-stop since Monday afternoon. Well…that is a bit of an exaggeration–there have been a few hours here and there without any rain. The skies have dumped so much moisture, though, that by the time the ground dries enough for me to mow the lawn, our yard will be a jungle. Don’t even get me started about the hail, that pelted and completely covered everything…

We have checked out basement no less than a dozen times for flooding, including in the  middle of last night, because I heard the rain falling so hard again, that it woke me, and I thought for *sure* the window wells were saturated and clogged and water was going to be pouring through the window frames (it has happened before). Thankfully, no flooding!!

So, what’s a family to do when the rain doesn’t stop for 6 days?

Deep-clean rooms.

Sort Legos.

Bake cookies.

Build Legos.

All the Legos.

Right now, I can hear my older boys still digging through a bucket of Legos, building and playing, ignoring the hunger pains in their bellies on this fine (still damp) Saturday morning.

And me? I’m loving that Daddy has been home to help them sort and build, that they are rediscovering the wonder of creating. I’m planning to use my damp Saturday for baking a Mother’s Day cake (we’ll be celebrating with my mom), for possibly sewing, for possibly getting a huge chunk of photo projects finished. Then, I’m praying for my toddler to experience sleep without screaming. All week, he hasn’t been able to settle without yelling. Advice?
