Embrace the Ordinary, Sick and Tired
Many thanks to Amy for hosting Embrace the Ordinary for the last several weeks. When I asked someone to host for Lent, I had no idea how much I was going to need that break from consistent blogging. It turned out that we were all sick for some time, and then took a trip to see family…and my blogging time was almost nonexistent. Thank you, Amy, for being a wonderful hostess of the linkup!
This week started beautifully, with a lovely, clear, sunny Easter morning. Easter was in my heart a joyful burst of fresh air and energy. Finally we were healthy and I was starting to get the toddler back on track with a good sleeping pattern. Small bits of time were sneaking into my days, in which I was free to do my own thing and enjoy quiet and creativity. Those 3 days were blissful.
Then, Firecracker, our 21 month old, started acting cranky and clingy again. And then the fever came, with a rash. The fever spiked in the middle of the night. It came down. It was up and down all day Wednesday, and then pretty high again, and by then he was also coughing. I called the nurse line (because my mama instincts basically don’t exist with some things, like sick toddlers), and was advised to have him seen, at after 9pm. You know the only place open then is the ER. Off we went. Final verdict: something viral.
In the last 3 days, I have spent about 8 hours *not* holding Firecracker. Of course his sleep is off again, due to the fever and coughing. I’ve worn unwashed hair, yoga pants non-stop, lived on coffee and Easter chocolate (ok, slight exaggeration…I did still get dinner on the table.)
It has been another week of slowing down, sticking with basics, and seeing the areas of my life I most need to streamline. Menu planning and grocery shopping are at the top of that list…so next week, my goal is to work on a simpler, more predictable plan. Then the next time germs strike, I won’t be left wishing I could do delivery every night.
