Embrace the Ordinary, 2020 vol. 7
#strivingforholiness
It’s 6:10 am and already I have tucked my youngest back into his bed, let the dog out, prayed for my husband, read an email, and read the daily Mass readings.
In that order.
That hashtag striving for holiness came from the email. My striving might be better if prayer came first. If my life was more disciplined. If . . .
. . . the dog wouldn’t climb between me and my journal when I sit down on the floor before our family’s humble prayer space.
Yup, I’m striving. Trying to find the rhythm of silence and stillness as a not only a woman but a wife and a mother, and as me.
Who am I, Lord? In what way are you speaking to me and how should I uniquely lean in to listen?
That’s a journey to discover. Even with the furry one clamoring for attention just like my sons. This is everyday. This is what embracing the ordinary looks like for me. This is what finding God in the ordinary and striving for holiness includes.
What is your prayer space like? I’d love to see. And I’d love to be inspired by your prayer routine. When, what you’re reading, etc. Let’s start a conversation in the comments to encourage each other!
We’re all hashtag striving for holiness. Even and especially in the mundane.
There is no other way. Either we learn to find our Lord in ordinary, everyday life, or else we shall never find Him.
